About Operation New Life
A few years ago, a couple of doctors and a small support staff traveled to
Honduras for a visit to see if and how they might improve the health care of one of the poorest nations on the planet. This initial trip
has now evolved into six to eight yearly surgical missions to Honduras, with each mission lasting 8 days, involving teams of 25 to 30 members
– doctors, nurses, non-medical volunteers, and prayer teams. We call our mission OPERATION NEW LIFE because we are, indeed, hoping to
give this impoverished nation New Life, both physically and spiritually. We operate, teach and minister in the only teaching hospital in Honduras, Hospital Escuela, an 1,800-bed facility that serves the poorest of the poor with technologies and equipment that are often decades behind the times. There is an old proverb that states, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime,” and this is what sets our mission apart from many others: we not only perform many critically needed surgical procedures on each mission, be we also train and equip the Honduran medical community, so that they can continue to perform surgical procedures even after we leave the country.
We are required to bring all of our needed supplies and equipment with us on these missions – everything from needles, to stuffed animals for the children, to hundreds of Spanish Bibles, to even our own operating equipment and anesthesia machines! Even though each of our team members raise their own support to cover travel and lodging expenses, it still takes about $95,000 a year to cover the costs of our surgical missions. And even though we stretch money farther than anyone can imagine, we need continued financial support to plan and carry out our plans for 2011 and beyond.
Please prayerfully consider how you might join our team as a volunteer, a financial supporter or a prayer partner.
Thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and support of Operation New Life!
